Golden Energy
9x12
Pen, ink, watercolor, gouache on watercolor paper
One of my favorite ways of getting my creative juices flowing is to start with pen and ink doodles on watercolor. From there, I begin to apply watercolor, more pen and ink, and gouache. I never quite know what will “show up” for me on these paintings. Sometimes I put them aside for a while, at all stages. Eventually, something begins to take form.
For Golden Energy, I started several pieces, playing with colors and shapes. I had a wonderful image of a foal by Rita Gallaway, a talented photographer who permits some artists to use her images that I wanted to use as inspiration and loved the subtle variations of color that I had started. This little imp really captured me and I was delighted with how his energy came through.
