The Souk in Marrakesh at Night from the Hotel Restaurant Balcony
16x20
Watercolor and Gouache
In October of 2021 I traveled to Morocco for the first time. That first night in Marrakesh was a dizzying feast for the senses. The colors, smells, and atmosphere are nearly overwhelming. I am longing to return. This painting was something of a departure for me - stronger colors and shapes than I have been using lately but it felt so evocative of that first night. I would love to be able to spend a whole week there, just wandering the souk and sitting and drinking hot, hot, sweet mint tea. Even a week would barely scratch the surface of everything on offer.
